Editorial Standards
NewMedia Boston exists to tell people in Boston what is happening where they live, accurately and plainly. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
Accuracy and sources
Every story is based on sources we name at the end of it. We report what the sources support and nothing more: no invented quotes, no figures that aren't in the record. When a story is drafted with AI, it is checked against its sources before it is published (see our AI disclaimer).
Fairness and tone
We write in a neutral, practical voice. We lead with what happened and why it matters to residents, and we don't add opinions of our own. Headlines say what the story says.
Independence and labelling
Advertisers and partners don't decide what we cover. Paid content is always marked: sponsored stories carry a “Sponsored” label, ads are marked “Sponsored ad”, and press releases are shown as press releases, published as issued and not verified by our newsroom.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it. Contact us with the story and what needs correcting; we review every request.
Videos and podcasts
Videos and podcasts on the site come from YouTube and podcast directories, picked for Boston. They are made by their creators, not by us, and are credited to them.
These standards apply across the NewMedia Network.
